The sharpening stone from the renowned Japanese whetstone manufacturer King is an excellent and affordable choice for beginners and medium-sharp knives. The #6000 grit stone is suitable for Japanese and German kitchen knives, razors, and carpentry tools. We use it for fine sharpening and burr removal. For the next step, we recommend using a leather strop to finish the blade or using the stone as a mid-step between #1000 and #8000 grit.
If we were to rank King stones, we would give them an "Economy Plus" label compared to our SharpEdge "Economy" stones. The main difference lies in the manufacturing process. King stones are not just pressed into shape but also "baked." This results in less stone wear during sharpening (meaning they will last longer), but it requires a bit more experience and patience when sharpening knives, as the King stone will produce less slurry than the "Economy" stones.
The King Super Finish stone comes without a base, so we recommend placing it on a stone holder during sharpening.
