Diamond is the hardest material in the world and has exceptional abrasive power when properly shaped. Atoma diamond stones are made using electro-welding technology, where laboratory-produced diamonds are bonded to a steel plate, ensuring their correct positioning and stability. This technology is widely used in the stone-cutting industry but has recently found significant application in knife sharpening.

Grit #400 is a universal Atoma grit, suitable for both stone flattening and sharpening. Extremely fine diamonds with sharp edges easily remove even the hardest materials. This is why it is one of the favorite tools for sharpening knives made of high-carbon steels hardened above 60 HRC. This grit is recommended for kitchen knives with such performance and is considered ideal, even essential, for sharpening pocket, hunting, and other folding and small blades made of exceptionally hard steels.

Besides sharpening, the most important role of the Atoma diamond stone is flattening other sharpening stones. Due to its technology, Atoma cannot deform and always remains perfectly flat, making it ideal for flattening ceramic sharpening stones. Just like with steel, the sharp edges of the diamond easily cut ceramic stones, transferring Atoma’s flatness and leaving a perfect surface for sharpening.

Atoma diamond stones are produced by the renowned Japanese abrasive manufacturer Tsuboman. High-quality monocrystalline diamonds are first welded onto a stainless steel plate, which is then mounted onto another 10 mm thick aluminum plate, machined to be perfectly flat. This construction ensures that Atoma will not deform over time and provides the product with massiveness and ease of use.
